Last February, Order PCM 122/2022, dated February 24, was published in the BOE, extending the measures contained in article 15 of Royal Decree-Law 38/2020, dated December 29.

This RD-law establishes measures to adapt to the situation generated by the Brexit and therefore, the consequences derived from the exit of the United Kingdom from the EU once the transitional period is over.

The United Kingdom effectively ceased to belong to the European Union as of December 31, 2020, so all traffic agreements within the EU framework are no longer valid for holders of driving licenses issued by the United Kingdom. Specifically:

-For holders of a UK driving license who have applied for exchange, replacement or renewal before December 31, 2020 could process it provided they have been verified by the UK authorities before January 1, 2021.

Therefore, and on the basis of the above mentioned Order, it is agreed to extend the period of validity of British licenses for an additional two months while negotiations continue.
