Los fans de la gama de coches de altas prestaciones de Subaru tendrán que esperar al menos 12 meses para que los modelos WRX y STI basados en el Impreza sean sustituidos, y más tiempo para un BRZ totalmente nuevo. En declaraciones a motoring.com.au con motivo de la presentación internacional del nuevo Forester en Japón esta semana, el director general de Subaru Australia, Colin Christie, afirmó que aunque los rumores de un WRX STI híbrido están bien asentados, todavía falta mucho para que se confirme el momento de su lanzamiento. “Subaru ha dejado muy claro que su objetivo para el futuro son los SUV y los coches de altas prestaciones, y que siguen trabajando y desarrollando esa gama”, declaró Christie, “Estoy seguro de que habrá un sustituto para el WRX y el STI. No será dentro de cinco o diez años, pero desde luego no llegará en los próximos 12 meses”.

La plataforma global de Subaru está diseñada para hacerlo todo”, explicó Christie. “Nos proporcionará una gama de prestaciones y una gama de SUV, así como la base perfecta para lanzar nuestra gama de vehículos híbridos, híbridos enchufables y eléctricos de batería”. Según parece, Subaru Australia presentará una versión ligeramente híbrida de su nuevo Forester antes de finales del año que viene, a la que seguirá “otro modelo híbrido” en 2020. Christie no quiso desvelar si este último sería un esperado sustituto del coche de altas prestaciones u otro SUV hibridado, pero sí sugirió que sería un modelo “familiar a la gama existente”.Subaru ha dicho anteriormente que se centrará en la electrificación de su gama, como parte de un gasto récord de 134.000 millones de euros en desarrollo de investigación durante el último año fiscal japonés.Lectura relacionada:
